Mars e-Bank.com Inc. and New Taipei Metro Company Launch “Folk Song Chip Time Capsule NFC One-Day Pass”
“Folk Music Festival x Summer Fireworks”—This summer’s most iconic concert—takes place on August 24 as Danhai Light Rail sets the stage for a nostalgic folk-song journey with “Next Stop, Recall Singing Folk Songs”.
New Taipei Metro Corporation will hold the “Next Stop, Recall Singing Folk Songs” concert at Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf (on the Fisherman's Stage) on August 24 at 6:00 p.m., featuring classic performances by Chio-Tian Folk Drums & Art Troupe, South Duet, Voter Hsu, Johnny Yin, Kay Huang, Wanfang Lin, Ben Liao, and Hsieh Yu-Wei. This event will coincide with the New Taipei City Fisheries Department’s “Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf Midsummer Fun Festival” featuring a fireworks show—creating a touching, nostalgic fireworks‑and‑music spectacle that transports audiences back to the golden era of folk songs from the 1970s and 1980s.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the folk song movement, with Tamsui as one of its birthplaces. In 1976, Lee Shuang-tze famously asked during a Western folk‑song concert at Tamkang University, “Where are our own songs?”, igniting the folk‑song era. To guide riders through this nostalgic journey, from August 16 to September 7, New Taipei Metro Corporation is offering a series of transit experiences that transform entering the light‑rail platform into a time‑traveling moment.
This includes the “Folk Song Chip Time Capsule NFC One‑Day Pass”, developed in partnership with Mars e-Bank.com Inc.This pass features Chip Time Capsule functionality that can store your memories—photos and videos of the day—while also serving as an unlimited‑ride pass on the Danhai Light Rail for that day. Through smartphone NFC scanning, riders can listen to Tamsui folk‑song stories. At the Hongshulin Station, a “Lyrics Time Tunnel”, and at Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf Station, a “Folk‑Song Western‑Style Café” have been set up as immersive photo‑op and sharing spots.
Additionally, there will be a folk‑song themed train, station announcements, and on‑board broadcasts—all designed to make the light‑rail ride feel like a time‑tunnel journey, blending visual, auditory, and tech elements to step by step relive those classic memories.
The “Next Stop, Recall Singing Folk Songs” concert extends the impact of those heartfelt melodies across generations. Performers include Golden Horse, Golden Bell, and Golden Melody Award-winning musician Kay Huang; Golden Horse, Golden Bell, and Golden Melody Award-winning singer Johnny Yin; Golden Melody Award-winning singer Wanfang Lin; Golden Melody Award-winning Hakka singer Hsieh Yu-Wei; the only group to win the Golden Melody Award three times for “Best Vocal Group”—South Duet; “Campus singer” Ben Liao; and students from Tamkang University. The event will be hosted by Voter Hsu, a Golden Bell Award-winning radio show host and singer, making music a bridge between past and future and ensuring the folk-song spirit continues to resonate and be passed down.
According to New Taipei Metro Corporation, Tamsui’s unique natural terrain and cultural context played a key role. Concert producer Rachel Ting selected songs that emphasize the natural environment—such as “Orchid”, “Catch the Loach”, “Dreamland”, “Wind Blows, Wind Blows”, and “Sun and Sprinkle”—not only iconic folk songs but also reflections of Tamsui’s mountains, rivers, and sea.
The concert opens with a performance by the Chio-Tian Folk Drums & Art Troupe, blending land-based musical traditions with folk art in an emotional musical journey that highlights Tamsui Estuary’s sunset and the grandeur of Danjiang Bridge.
All are invited to ride the Danhai Light Rail, enjoy fireworks, and listen to folk songs—immersing themselves in the beauty where Tamsui and folk-song culture intertwine, riding into memories on the Danhai Light Rail!
